Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about Navoa, privacy, and your account.

What is Navoa?

Navoa is a GPS tracking and safety application for small vessels — sailboats, motorboats, jet skis, kayaks, and other pleasure vessels — operating in coastal waters. It lets crew members track their position in real time, share their location with emergency contacts, and trigger SOS alerts that are dispatched directly to the Icelandic Coast Guard and to the vessel's designated emergency contact.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your Navoa account in two ways:

  1. From the app:Open Navoa, go to Settings → Account, and tap "Delete account". You will be asked to confirm. Once confirmed, your account, all registered vessels, and all tracking history are permanently removed within 30 days.
  2. By email: If you cannot access the app, send a deletion request from the email address tied to your account to contact@arcticapplications.com. We will verify the request and complete the deletion within 30 days.

Account deletion removes your profile, vessels, trip history, and location data. SOS alert records that have already been transmitted to the Icelandic Coast Guard remain in their systems and are governed by their data retention policy.

Does Navoa work without an internet connection?

Navoa is designed for coastal waters where cellular coverage is generally available, but the app is built to handle short connectivity gaps. While offline, the app continues to record your location locally and uploads any backlog as soon as connectivity is restored. SOS alerts will be queued and sent the moment a signal returns; for areas with prolonged or unreliable coverage, we strongly recommend carrying a dedicated satellite distress device in addition to Navoa.

How do SOS alerts work?

When you send an SOS from the app, Navoa simultaneously routes the alert to the Icelandic Coast Guard and sends an SMS to the emergency contact registered for the active vessel. Both messages include your most recent GPS coordinates, the time of the alert, the vessel's registration, and your contact information. Navoa has a trial agreement with the Icelandic Coast Guard for direct routing of these SOS alerts.

Who can see my location?

By default, your location is visible on the Live Map while you are tracking. You can choose to disable this in your account settings in the app. While visible, only your current position and basic vessel info (type, registration) are shown; trip history is not exposed publicly. When you trigger an SOS, your location is shared with the Icelandic Coast Guard and your emergency contact regardless of your public visibility setting.
